The exhibition is dedicated to the painter Robert Falk, whose 125th anniversary was celebrated in 2011. Opening of the exhibition is at 15.00 p.m. – 03 Dec 2012.
For the first time Falk’s works of the collections of the NGA and the Museum of Russian Art are exhibited together. The artist’s exclusive works represented in numerous catalogues and studies are displayed here which best reveal the evolution of his art.
The exhibition represents the creative way of the artist: from the early period of “Bubnovy Valet (Jack of Diamonds)” (1910’s) and that of Paris (1928-1937) till 1940-1950’s, the mature period of his creative life.
The exhibition includes mostly the paintings of the artist: “At the Piano” 1917, “The Black One. The Artist of Circus”, 1917, the famous portraits of his wife A. Shchekin-Krotova: “In a Black Shawl” and “In a Pink Shawl”, as well as landscapes and still lifes. Drawings and watercolour paintings are also exhibited here including the decoration sketch for C. Goldoni’s play “The Liar”, 1940.
Main part of the NGA’s collection was acquired from his first private exhibition organized at the NGA in 1965. Those artworks also include his widow’s donations to the Museum.
